Rare set of four “Monk” dining chairs, designer by Afra & Tobia Scarpa for Italian furniture brand Molteni and launched in 1973. With a wood frame and a raw canvas upholstery, the chairs are penned in the essential and geometric style that always defined the celebrated couple of designers and is also found in the 121 chairs for Cassina or the Africa chairs for Maxalto.
Increasingly rare and extremely sought after, the Monk chairs are a timeless example of Italian design, and are fit for virtually any interior – from a wabi sabi, minimal country retreat to a townhouse furnished with the finest collectible pieces.
These four chairs are in untouched original conditions, and show signs of their age. While the frame is in very good conditions, the canvas has some stains and fading; there are no structural issue, but you might want to reupholster them if what you’re looking for is a perfect item.
